A free artist bio generator built for working artists

An artist bio is the short paragraph that introduces you on a gallery wall label, a press release, a residency application, or your own website. It's different from an artist statement — a bio is about you, while a statement is about the work. Galleries usually ask for both.

This artist bio generator gives you three lengths in one tool: a short ~50-word bio for social profiles and group-show labels, a medium ~100-word bio for gallery websites and exhibition catalogs, and a long ~200-word bio for grants and residency portfolios. Flip between first person (for your own site) and third person (for galleries, press, and museums) with one click.

What to include in your artist bio

A strong bio answers six questions in order: who you are, what you make, where you trained, where you've shown, what you've earned, and what you're working on now. The generator follows that arc automatically. Skip any field you don't have — emerging artists don't need a long exhibitions list, and established artists often skip education entirely.

Everything stays in your browser. No signup, no account, no data sent anywhere. Export to PDF when you're ready to send.

Frequently asked questions

What is an artist bio?+

An artist bio is a short third-person (or first-person) introduction to you as an artist. Unlike an artist statement, which is about your work and ideas, a bio is about you — where you're based, what you make, where you've shown, and what you've earned.

How long should an artist bio be?+

Three lengths are standard. Short (~50 words) for social profiles and group-show wall text. Medium (~100 words) for gallery websites, exhibition catalogs, and press handouts. Long (~200 words) for grant applications, residency portfolios, and feature press.

First person or third person?+

Third person is the gallery, museum, and press standard — it reads as if someone else is introducing you, even when you wrote it yourself. First person is fine for your own website, social profiles, and casual contexts. This generator supports both.

What should I include in an artist bio?+

Name, discipline, where you're based, where you trained (optional), the themes or materials you work with, and a short list of exhibitions, awards, residencies, or collections. End with what you're working on or where you live and work.
